Project Story
All Shook Up is a story about young love, the unifying power of music, and what happens when a community begins to find its voice. I approached the town not simply as a setting, but as an active participant in that journey.

All Shook Up is a story about young love, the unifying power of music, and what happens when a community begins to find its voice. I approached the town not simply as a setting, but as an active participant in that journey.
The town square is the production’s anchor. It is where people gather, clash, celebrate, and ultimately connect. Throughout the show, it reveals different sides of itself, changing in response to the characters and the emotional energy of the story. The fairgrounds are an extension of that same idea: familiar buildings and architectural elements return in new arrangements, shifted and repurposed as the world becomes freer, louder, and more expressive.
The design relies on stylized realism. Every façade, storefront, sign, trim detail, and textured surface is intended to feel motivated by a believable place and time. This creates depth onstage while also allowing practical construction elements, seams, supports, and transitions to be incorporated naturally into the architecture.
Scenic units were developed to support multiple locations, including the town centre, Sylvia’s, Molly’s Shoes, Jim’s Garage, the museum, jailhouse, bus stop, fairgrounds, and Tunnel of Love. By allowing locations to transform and reappear in new contexts, the setting reinforces the show’s central idea: when people change, the world around them changes too.
