Scenic designer for regional and off-broadway
Baron E. Pugh is a scenic designer whose work explores the intersection of storytelling, architecture, and visual poetry. Based in Providence, he creates immersive environments for theater, opera, and new works that support bold narratives and dynamic performance.
Baron holds an MFA in Scenic Design from Boston University and is a member of United Scenic Artists Local USA 829. His work has been seen Off-Broadway, regionally, and at leading educational institutions across the United States.
Design credits include As Time Goes By (Out of the Box Theatrics), The Lehman Trilogy (Gulfshore Playhouse), The Anonymous Lover (Opera Philadelphia), Primary Trust and ABCD (Barrington Stage Company), Million Dollar Quartet and B.R.O.K.E.N code B.I.R.D switching (Berkshire Theatre Group), and Trouble in Mind (Hartford Stage). New York credits include An Absolute Turkey, Two Sisters and a Piano, King Lear and The Tempest at The Juilliard School Drama Division.
As an associate designer, Baron has worked with award-winning scenic and production designer, Jason Ardizzone-West, contributing to productions that include Shadow/Land at The Public Theater as well as The Grove, Sojourners, and The Bluest Eye at The Huntington Theatre.
Whether developing large-scale period worlds, intimate contemporary settings, or highly theatrical environments for new works, Baron approaches each project with a commitment to collaboration and imaginative visual storytelling.
Baron is also an Affiliated Faculty member at Emerson College, where he teaches courses in hand drafting and Vectorworks, mentoring the next generation of theatre designers.
